Stax Records Memphis

About a month ago I went to see Take Me to the River. It is a documentary about the soul of American music. The film follows the recording of a new album featuring legends from Stax records and Memphis mentoring and passing on their musical magic to stars and artists of today.

Well this weekend I was able to go to Memphis and explore Stax Recording Studio and Museum. The original Stax building was destroyed, but the artists and workers rebuilt it by what they could remember and old photographs and turned it into a museum and music school. It is a great place full of history. I am excited to be a member of the Recording Academy and what they have done for Stax.

This is inside the museum and the tile is outside the front door.

The street views.
The studio. The building is a old movie theater but the owners never wanted to pay to have the floor leveled. The slopped floor was part of the unique sound of the room.

A hall of the albums and songs that were recorded here.
Issac Hayes Cadallic. He wouldn't;t drive it around town because it would cause wrecks from people staring at it while trying to drive.

Stax Museum is a must visit for anyone visiting Memphis.
